Report: Joe Mauer, physically, is a better athlete than some shortstops in the majors. Mauer works very well behind that plate and knows how to manage the picthes well.
Strengths: Has great awareness, along with a very strong and accurate arm. Great control of the bat and can hit pinpoint areas of the field. Has a very good eye with excellent plate patience, and will draw a lot of earned walks.
Weaknesses: The harder he hits the ball, he tends to hit a lot to the opposite field. Scouts have been picking up on that and playing the left fielder deep in the corner. |
